Nike’s gleaming sports arena in the Mall of Qatar

Spotlights place lighting accents

Four runners give everything, the crowd roars, over the last few metres before the finishing line the will-power and strength of the best runner decide the victory. Dramatically posing mannequins allow visitors to share in this exciting moment as soon as they enter the new Nike store in the Mall of Qatar. The image becomes plastic and vivid due to a sophisticated lighting concept from Ansorg. The interplay of light and shadow brings the sports disciplines and their athletes, footwear and apparel, into the limelight. The look into the “sky” reveals equally dynamic architecture. In the open ceiling the inserted and seemingly freely hovering dark track-mounted spotlights contribute to the modern urban-industrial style — although they act unobtrusively in the background.

Lighting accents guide you through the room
A particular challenge for Ansorg was the limited length of the power tracks that, inserted in a square within the store interior, had to be used in an optimum manner. The individual spotlights were, however, in accordance with the customer’s wishes, positioned perfectly and arranged so exactly that they emphasize individual garments, display areas, goods carriers and shelves and pick them out from the abundance of the range.
Dynamism and focus are pre-conditions for successful athletes. Visitors to the Nike store are meant to be immersed in the glittering atmosphere of a sports arena and to be guided through the whole Nike portfolio via the individual points illuminated by spotlights. The key categories such as running, training, soccer or basketball are clearly recognizable as their own facets are brightly lit. In the running area they are the shoes and in soccer and basketball the outerwear. Contrasting with the spotlights are linear light fittings above the groups of mannequins set in individual poses or the test areas where customers carry out a treadmill analysis and can try out soccer or basketball equipment. This contrast also clearly demarcates rooms, topics and areas.

LEDs in large-scale operation
The lively and accentuated experience realm is successful particularly due to the liberal use of LEDs. In the fashion area it is especially important to provide all goods and garments with exactly the light that shows them not only from their best side, but also from their genuine side. The realistic colour rendition is ensured by the brilliant white LED modules used predominantly for the spotlights in the central sales area as well as for the mannequins. They provide an authentic and high-contrast lighting mood that the customers also find pleasant.
